The Req Room
The Req Room is an intimate arts and performance space at 1208 North Monroe Street in Midtown Tallahassee Florida. Owned and run by music educator Chris Seepersaud and Seepersaud Studios it sits right next door to the Blue Tavern near the corner of North Monroe Street and Fifth Avenue. The name is pronounced like wreck and the room has quickly become a home for musicians and poets and painters and performers who need a welcoming place to share their work.
History
The Req Room opened in early January 2025. Chris Seepersaud has more than 20 years of experience as a music educator and performing artist and he created the space to fill a gap in Tallahassee's arts community. Many local artists had great ideas but no place to present them and the Req Room was built to change that. Carrie Hamby of the neighboring Blue Tavern helped shape the creative vision and the opening night drew a full house for a painting exhibition and poetry reading and a live music jam.
Atmosphere and Setting
The Req Room is a small and flexible room that doubles as an art gallery and a performance space. It is quiet and focused with an audience that comes to listen which makes it a great fit for singer-songwriters and acoustic acts and spoken word. The room is equipped with professional microphones and speakers and it has a strong community feel with a special focus on supporting emerging artists and college students from FSU and FAMU and TCC.
Open Mic
The Req Room hosts a monthly open mic on the second Sunday of the month. Upcoming dates are Sunday October 11 and Sunday November 8 and Sunday December 13 2026. It is a friendly and supportive stage for musicians and performers of every experience level. Check the Req Room Facebook page for start times and details.
Music and Arts Events
The calendar mixes concerts and creative gatherings. Touring folk songwriters Danny Schmidt and Danny Goddard are booked for Sunday January 17 2027 at 6:00 PM. The room has also hosted It's Lit which is a poetry and literature open mic led by poet Melissa Price along with art exhibitions and Mantra Sound experiences and theater performances. Choirs and bands use the space for rehearsals and there are adult art classes too.
Seepersaud Studios
The Req Room is part of Seepersaud Studios which offers music lessons and coaching along with session musician work and recording services and instrument repair. Chris Seepersaud is also available to book as a performer and music educator.
Private Rentals
The Req Room is available to rent for concerts and poetry readings and book clubs and lessons and other gatherings. Rental rates have ranged from about $50 to $400 depending on the event. Email inquiries first to SeepStudios@gmail.com.
Next Door at the Blue Tavern
The Blue Tavern next door is one of Tallahassee's best-known listening rooms with live music most nights plus open mics and bluegrass and jazz and old-time and Irish jams. Together the two rooms make this block of North Monroe Street a real hub for local music.
