McGeary's Pub

McGeary's Pub is an Irish pub on Clinton Square in downtown Albany, long established as one of the city's most reliable live music venues, with a proper stage and sound system that punches above what most neighborhood pubs offer.

Atmosphere and Setting

The pub has a classic Irish-bar feel with a genuine music-venue backbone, drawing a mix of downtown Albany regulars and touring-band audiences depending on the night.

CRBN Blues Jam

Every Sunday night at 7:30 PM, the Capital Region Blues Network hosts its weekly blues jam — billed as “the coolest jam in the Capital Region.” A host band plays a one-hour opening set, after which the jam master organizes sign-up musicians into groups by instrument and musical compatibility, giving each a three-song set. McGeary's supplies a full backline, including a drum kit, bass amp, two guitar amps and a complete PA system, so musicians need only bring their own instrument.

Other Programming

Beyond the Sunday blues jam, McGeary's books a steady lineup of local and touring bands throughout the week.

For Performers

A sign-up sheet is typically placed on the first table inside the door; arriving early is recommended to secure a slot given the jam's popularity. There's no cover charge, though a $5 donation is suggested to support the host band.
