The Kraken Bar & Lounge

The Kraken Bar & Lounge is a pirate-themed punk rock dive bar in Seattle's Roosevelt neighborhood near the University District. It serves food and drinks and loud live music with plenty of attitude and it is one of the north end's most loved late-night hangouts.

The Story Behind the Kraken

The Kraken spent more than a decade on University Way before the building was sold to developers and the bar closed in March 2023. Owners Kat Colley and Daniel Colley and William Knupp refused to let it go. Fans backed a GoFundMe to help pay for the move and the Kraken reopened in April 2024 in the former Cafe Racer space on Roosevelt Way. The first show in the new room featured Head Honcho and Ol' Doris and Jet///Lag.

The Vibe

Expect dim lights and loud music and a friendly crew of regulars. It is gritty and welcoming at the same time and the kitchen stays open until close.

Tuesday Open Mic

Every Tuesday the Kraken hosts an open mic. Sign-up is at 7:30 PM and the show starts at 8:00 PM. Rockers and songwriters and experimental acts all find a place on the list.

Why Musicians Like It

This is a true grassroots room where new bands cut their teeth. The crowd is up for anything and the Tuesday open mic is an easy way to get your first set in front of Seattle's punk and garage community.

Live Music

The Kraken books punk and garage and metal and indie bands most weekends along with karaoke nights.
