Club Passim stands as one of America's most influential folk music venues with a history spanning over 65 years. Originally opened as Club 47 in 1958 the venue has been integral to the development of American folk music and the Cambridge folk scene that produced countless influential artists.

Historical Significance

The venue played a pivotal role in the 1960s folk boom and the emergence of folk-rock music. Legendary performers including Joan Baez Bob Dylan Joni Mitchell Tom Rush Suzanne Vega and countless others graced this intimate stage early in their careers. Joan Baez began performing here as a Boston University student and the club became a launching pad for generations of folk artists.

The Venue Today

Now operating as a nonprofit since 1994 Club Passim continues its mission to create an inspiring interactive music experience. The intimate basement venue seats approximately 110 people ensuring every audience member feels connected to the performance. The club presents over 400 shows annually featuring both emerging and established artists across folk bluegrass singer-songwriter and acoustic genres.

Programming and Events

Beyond regular concerts Passim hosts monthly open mic nights where performers can showcase their talents with professional sound support. The annual Down Home Up Here bluegrass and old-time festival brings together the best of the genre for workshops performances and community jam sessions. The Passim School of Music offers classes and workshops helping nurture the next generation of musicians.

While the space is not wheelchair accessible due to its basement location the club works to accommodate all guests.
