Vermilionville

Vermilionville is a living history museum and folklife park along the Bayou Vermilion in Lafayette, recreating an early Cajun, Creole and Native American settlement through restored and reconstructed historic buildings, costumed interpreters and traditional craft demonstrations. Music has always been central to its mission of keeping Acadiana's culture alive.

Atmosphere and Setting

The park's Performance Center hosts music sessions in a rustic, folklife-museum setting surrounded by the village's historic structures, offering a genuinely immersive backdrop for traditional Louisiana music.

Weekly Cajun Jam

Every Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, the Cajun French Music Association sponsors a free jam session at Vermilionville's Performance Center, led by some of the area's finest traditional musicians and open to players of all abilities.

Other Programming

Vermilionville's broader calendar includes cooking demonstrations at La Cuisine de Maman, seasonal festivals, and daily historic interpretation throughout the park.

For Performers

The jam is a come-as-you-are session welcoming fiddle, accordion, guitar and other traditional Cajun instrumentalists at any experience level; admission to the jam itself is free even though the park otherwise charges general admission.
