Overview

Vangarde Arts stands as a vibrant nonprofit hub for art and music enthusiasts in Sioux City Iowa. Appropriately named this venue leads the way in exploring new boundaries for the arts adding to the growing cultural district in downtown Sioux City. Since opening in 2012 Vangarde Arts has provided area artists and musicians an outlet to exhibit and perform original works of art.

The Venue

This intimate venue features a gallery lounge and listening room with a maximum capacity that creates an inviting atmosphere where creativity flourishes. The compact yet well-outfitted space promotes socialization making it perfect for engaging conversations and memorable experiences. Music Programming

Vangarde Arts presents a compelling mix of programming featuring both nationally acclaimed touring acts and local talent. The venue has hosted legendary musicians including Ray Wylie Hubbard Johnny Winter John Primer James McMurtry David Lindley Bo Ramsey Will Sexton and jazz icon Patricia Barber. Rising stars such as Valerie June Pieta Brown and Mike Zito have also graced the stage along with original Sioux City bands like Ghostcat and Banana Cramps.

Musical genres span blues jazz rock folk bluegrass funk soul Americana and beyond. Most ticketed concerts take place on Friday and Saturday nights with an average of four concerts per month. The venue also hosts the Almost Famous Open Mic Night every Thursday at 7pm providing a platform for singers players poets and comedians. Professional equipment is provided including drum kits guitar amps and a top-notch house PA system with sound tech.

Art & Community

In addition to music Vangarde Arts showcases monthly visual art exhibits featuring both veteran and emerging artists. The venue created the Alley Art Festival in 2019 a street art festival that has transformed downtown Sioux City's alleys with over 140 murals. The annual festival draws thousands of visitors and features live music art vendors food trucks and community engagement.

The venue also hosts the Art Brawl competition where artists create paintings in 30 minutes in front of live audiences and special community fundraisers supporting local causes like the Siouxland Food Bank and Warming Shelter.
