About Sam First

Sam First is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit jazz club and cocktail bar located just minutes from LAX. Founded by owner Paul Solomon - the venue was designed to be unexpectedly creative - matching the authentic creativity of the musicians who perform there. The space features industrial interior structures - original photography and vintage mid-century modern furniture.

Performance Space and Acoustics

Sam First is designed without an elevated stage - removing the boundary between performers and audiences to promote collaboration and connection. The intimate listening room features amazing acoustics and one of LA's most loved Yamaha C7x grand pianos. The venue seats approximately 75-100 people in a configuration that makes patrons feel like they're on stage with the band.

Music Programming

The venue features world-class modern - eclectic and straight-ahead jazz artists five nights a week (Tuesday through Saturday) with two sets nightly at 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM. Tuesday nights feature The Happenings performance followed by an open jam session. The venue also hosts College Night - a program giving young musicians performance experience and networking opportunities.

Drinks and Atmosphere

Sam First offers a carefully curated selection of craft cocktails - local beers and wines - and bar snacks. The venue is also home to Sam First Records - a label documenting performances by resident and visiting artists. The club maintains a committed listening room policy - asking guests to refrain from talking during performances.
