Texas Cafe & Bar (The Spoon)

Texas Cafe & Bar is a Lubbock institution at 3604 50th Street. It opened in 1980 as the Texas Spoon and became known for smoked barbecue and vibrant live music. The name officially changed to Texas Cafe in the early 1990s but locals still call it The Spoon.

Atmosphere and Setting

The Spoon is a laid-back neighborhood bar and grill with a stage that has hosted local bands for more than four decades. It mixes a sports bar feel on game days with a true live music room at night. The crowd is loyal and friendly and Texas Tech game days are a big deal here.

Sunday Night Jam Session

The venue's Sunday night jam session features the talents of local Lubbock musicians. The Lubbock Live Music Scene calendar lists the Open Mic Jam on Sundays from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM through September 2026. It is a late night hang where players sit in and trade songs after the weekend gigs are done. Sunday also brings an all-day happy hour.

Live Music Calendar

Live music runs on Wednesday nights at 8:00 PM and on Friday and Saturday nights. Recent bookings include the Owen Franklin Blues Band along with local bands such as Courtney's Company and Element. Thursday nights are karaoke nights from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Food and Drink

The kitchen specializes in smoked pit barbecue and pizza. Lunch specials run Wednesday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and a pizza buffet is offered on Wednesdays. Happy hour runs daily with times that vary by day.
