About The Space Upstairs

Perched above the Construction Junction warehouse at 214 North Lexington Street in Point Breeze, The Space Upstairs is an experimental arts venue unlike any other in Pittsburgh. It is a raw, loft-style studio that serves as the home base for The Pillow Project and other avant-garde performance groups.

Atmosphere and Setting

The room has an open floor plan and an industrial aesthetic that invites artistic exploration outside of conventional frameworks. The open layout lets the space adapt to whatever the artists have in mind, and the audience tends to be curious about new ideas.

Arts and Community

The Pillow Project is a Pittsburgh dance and performance company, and The Space Upstairs is where its experiments come to life. Dancers, musicians, and artists from a variety of disciplines use the space, and collaborations often develop in real time.

Music

The venue also hosts jazz and other musical events, and its mix of movement and music has become a signature. Guests are encouraged to come with an open mind.

Point Breeze Setting

Point Breeze is a residential neighborhood in Pittsburgh's East End, and Construction Junction, the nonprofit building-materials reuse center downstairs, makes the location unusual. The combination of architectural salvage and experimental art gives the building a distinct, creative character that visitors remember.
