The Blue Light Live
The Blue Light Live is one of the most important rooms in Texas country music. It opened in March 1999 inside one of the oldest buildings in downtown Lubbock's historic Depot Entertainment District at 1806 Buddy Holly Avenue. Owners David and Stephanie Brooks took over from founder Tom McDonald in 2005 and have kept the stage focused on developing new artists ever since.
History and Legacy
The Blue Light plays the same role for Lubbock that Antone's plays for Austin. Josh Abbott and Wade Bowen along with William Clark Green and Flatland Cavalry all cut their teeth here and artists such as Randy Rogers and Red Shahan and Dalton Domino and Brandon Adams have strong ties to the room. Wade Bowen has said the Blue Light means everything to him because it is where he learned his craft.
Singer-Songwriter Night
Monday is songwriter night at the Blue Light. The weekly Singer-Songwriter Night starts at 9:00 PM and is hosted by Jerry Serrano. The night is for original songs only so covers are not allowed. Sign-up is first come and first served on a list near the stage. Many performers have moved from a Monday night slot to weekend headline shows so this is a true proving ground for writers of every genre. The venue also runs periodic Singer-Songwriter Competitions.
Sound and Production
The room is known for excellent sound. Its engineers are graduates of the respected sound technology program at South Plains College in nearby Levelland and the venue has modern sound and LED lighting plus on-site recording capability.
Live Music Calendar
The Blue Light presents live music six nights a week with Texas country and Red Dirt and Americana and rock on the bill. Regular performers over the years have included Ryan Bingham and Hayes Carll and Billy Joe Shaver. Covers are typically low early in the week and higher on Friday and Saturday nights.
Good to Know
The Blue Light is a 21 and up venue for most shows with ladies 18 and up welcome on many nights. Doors usually open between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM and drink specials run until 10:30 PM on most nights. Call (806) 762-1185 or email blbooking@thebluelightlive.com for booking.
