Red Stick Social
Red Stick Social is one of Baton Rouge's most striking places to eat and drink and play. It fills a restored brick power plant on Government Street with a restaurant and several bars and bowling lanes and a live music stage. Since opening in 2019 it has become a go-to gathering place in Mid City.
The Story Behind the Building
The 30,000-square-foot building once housed the Baton Rouge Electric Co. power plant and was later owned by Entergy. After years of sitting empty the first floor was flooded and overgrown. Renovation began in 2017 as part of the Electric Depot development. Owner Robert Lay is a Shreveport native and LSU graduate who wanted to create a true gathering place inspired by spots like Pinewood Social in Nashville. Red Stick Social opened on April 15 2019.
The Vibe
The space is big and modern with exposed brick and industrial details. Ten bowling lanes are spread over two upper floors and the stage on the first floor can be seen from the lanes above. There are bars on several levels so there is always a drink close by.
What They Serve
The kitchen serves modern Southern and Acadian dishes. Opening menu favorites included crawfish mac and cheese and chicken and waffles and a C'Asian flatbread. The weekend brunch is popular too.
Thursday Open Jam
Red Stick Social hosts a weekly Thursday night Open Jam for solo performers and full bands. The house provides a five-piece acoustic drum kit and multiple microphones and keyboard and guitar amp hookups. There are even camera stands so performers can record their sets. Sign up in advance by emailing the venue's music team to get on the rotation.
Why Musicians Like It
Pro sound and lighting and a real stage make this jam feel like a gig. The advance sign-up keeps the night organized and the bowling and dining crowd adds a lively audience.

The calendar includes happy hours and themed dance nights along with karaoke and watch parties for LSU and Saints games.
