About Pete's Candy Store

Pete's Candy Store is a Williamsburg institution at 709 Lorimer Street in Brooklyn. The building dates to the 1920s, when it served as a candy and soda fountain shop, and it opened for live music in 1999. Its front bar still carries the look of a vintage soda fountain.

Atmosphere and Setting

The venue has three distinct spaces: the front bar, a middle lounge, and a back performance room designed like a train car, long and narrow, with a small stage at the far end. It is a true listening room, where audiences give performers their undivided attention, and the management's preference for acoustic sets, without drums or heavy amplification, gives the space a quiet, focused feel.

Food and Drink

The kitchen serves grilled cheese sandwiches, chili, and snacks. The bar pours craft beers from Brooklyn breweries and classic cocktails.

History and Reputation

Pete's has been a launching pad for many artists. Norah Jones, Beth Orton, Devendra Banhart, and Sufjan Stevens all played early-career shows here, and the venue's regular open mic is widely regarded as one of the most competitive and high-quality in Brooklyn.
