Orient Express
Orient Express is one of Seattle's most unusual nightspots. The SoDo restaurant and lounge is built from a string of vintage railroad cars and each one has its own story. It is best known for private karaoke rooms but it also books concerts and special music nights.
The Story Behind the Train
The business began in 1949 as Andy's Diner in a single rail car. As its steaks and martinis won over local workers it grew by adding salvaged cars including some from Seattle City Light. The most famous is President Franklin D. Roosevelt's personal car from his 1944 reelection campaign. It still has hardwood paneling and the lamp button FDR used to call staff. After a long closure the restaurant reopened in January 2008 as Orient Express.
The Vibe
Every night feels like a party on a train. Eight private karaoke rooms hold from 10 to 45 people and the main bar space can host up to 300 guests. Staff may let you peek into the presidential car if it is not booked. It is a fun stop before or after a game in the nearby stadium district.
What They Serve
The kitchen serves Thai and Chinese dishes and there is a full bar. Happy hour starts at 3:00 PM daily and the bar and karaoke rooms stay open until 2:00 AM.
Open Mic Jazz Night
Orient Express presents an Open Mic Jazz Night where singers can step up and perform their favorite jazz standards with live musicians. It is a night for vocalists and jazz fans alike.
More Music
The lounge has hosted rock and metal and punk shows along with themed parties and special events.
