Old Ironsides
Sacramento's Historic Music Venue
Established in 1934 with the first liquor license issued in Sacramento County after Prohibition - Old Ironsides holds the distinction of being Sacramento's oldest continuously operating bar. The family-owned establishment has evolved from a neighborhood watering hole for politicians into one of the city's premier small-scale music venues - with a capacity of 150 people.
Live Music Heritage
Old Ironsides hosts live music Thursday through Saturday nights - featuring local and touring acts across rock - indie - punk - and alternative genres. The venue gained legendary status in the 1990s when the next generation of the Kanelos family transformed it into a nightclub. Wednesday night open mics have become a staple - while the LIPSTICK indie rock dance party has run monthly for over 20 years - drawing lines around the building.
Venue Character
The intimate brick-walled space features excellent acoustics and a stage in the adjoining showroom. The venue maintains its dive bar charm while providing professional sound quality. Tuesday nights feature karaoke - and the venue previously served lunch with Greek and Italian influenced home-style cooking. The building's 88-year history is evident in every corner - creating an authentic Sacramento experience.
