Neon Parrot Live at Majestic Coffee
Neon Parrot Live is an entertainment and live performance space in downtown Abilene that shares its home with Majestic Coffee on Pine Street. Guests enter through the coffee shop to reach the performance room. Owner Sam Wolfe runs Majestic Coffee and partners with Neon Parrot Live on a busy slate of community programming that includes a weekly songwriters' open mic.
History and Setting
The building has deep downtown roots. It began as a bank in the 1880s and later housed The Majestic theatre in the early 1900s. It went on to be Olympia Confectionary and an event venue and then the original Neon Parrot Lounge which opened as a live music lounge in 2015. Today Majestic Coffee fills the front with a plant-filled interior and vintage charm while Neon Parrot Live keeps the music tradition alive.
Songwriters' Open Mic Night
The Songwriters' Open Mic Night runs on Sunday evenings at 7:00 PM. Original songs are encouraged and covers are allowed when the performer accompanies themselves on an instrument. Sign-ups take place before the performances begin and the show is streamed on the Neon Parrot LIVE YouTube channel so performers get a recording of their set. Listings show the open mic continuing weekly into fall 2026.
Other Events
Neon Parrot Live also hosts a comedy open mic on Thursdays and a popular Senior Karaoke session on Tuesday afternoons at Majestic Coffee that draws participants from local senior centers. The room also books live shows such as touring and regional bands. Sam Wolfe describes his programming approach with the improv idea of yes and so the calendar stays varied and community focused.
Coffee and Menu
Majestic Coffee focuses on bean quality and minimal sweetness with craft espresso drinks and lattes. It is known for creative cereal-infused milks when available. Free Wi-Fi and plenty of outlets make it a good daytime work spot.
