Historic Downtown Pub
Murphy's Pub & Grill has been a downtown Rapid City fixture since the repeal of Prohibition in 1933 originally starting as a small establishment with just 14 stools six booths and a bar. After a fire in 1984 the venue underwent renovation and expansion establishing itself as both a full-service restaurant and vibrant pub. Located inside the historic Rapid City Garage building the gastropub combines the welcoming attributes of a local pub with the passion creativity and selection of a modern restaurant creating a comfortable hometown feel.
Food & Beverage
The menu features upscale pub fare with signature dishes including the famous Buffalo Meatloaf (stuffed with mushrooms wrapped in bacon served with mashed potatoes and asparagus) and Fancy Fried Pickles (fried pickle spears wrapped in prosciutto stuffed with mozzarella). The kitchen is almost entirely scratch-made offering sandwiches burgers salads and chef's specials. The bar boasts 26 beers on tap with approximately 70% from local South Dakota breweries including Lost Cabin Beer Co. Spearfish Brewing Company and Dakota Point Brewing plus 40 more bottles. Wine selections include Prairie Berry Winery's signature Red Ass Rhubarb. Cocktails are inspired by top lists nationwide. Happy hour runs Monday-Friday 3-6 PM.
Live Music Programming
Murphy's hosts local live music on the outdoor patio every Thursday Friday and Saturday night. Following the 2025 cancellation of the Summer Nights concert series Murphy's debuted a new summer patio series featuring live music Thursdays from 6-8 PM in addition to existing Friday and Saturday performances. The spacious patio offers a pet-friendly environment with fire pits creating an ideal setting for enjoying music and dining outdoors. The venue also features a secret speakeasy underneath the restaurant operating on word-of-mouth with limited advertising maintaining the authentic speakeasy tradition.

Hours are Monday-Thursday 11 AM-midnight Friday-Saturday 11 AM-2 AM and Sunday 11 AM-9 PM with lunch served Monday-Saturday 11 AM-4:30 PM. The venue offers two private event spaces for functions ranging from 60 to 130 guests. An event calendar is maintained on the website. Murphy's accepts reservations which are recommended during peak hours especially Friday and Saturday. The downtown location provides easy access with metered street parking and the main downtown parking ramp nearby.
