Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship — Home of The Folk Project's Open Stage

Once a month, the fellowship hall at the Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship becomes one of the area's most established listening rooms for acoustic and folk performers, hosting The Folk Project's long-running Open Stage series.

Atmosphere and Setting

This is not a bar-room jam. The Folk Project runs a smoke-free, alcohol-free listening-room environment on a proper concert stage that seats roughly 200, with a second, smaller Terrace Room stage also available the same night. The tone is attentive and community-minded, closer to a folk club or house concert than a nightlife venue.

The Open Stage

Billed by the organization as "North Jersey's premier open stage," the event runs on the second Friday of each month at 7:30 PM, with $7 admission (children 12 and under free with an adult). Unlike a walk-in open mic, performers request a slot in advance by email; up to 15 acts are selected for two-song ten-minute sets. Performers can opt for accompaniment from the house Bunk Bed Band, and sets are livestreamed and recorded for the artists. The format leans acoustic, singer-songwriter and folk.

Other Programming

The Folk Project also runs the Troubadour Acoustic Concert Series and occasional ticketed shows such as Campfire Night at the Troubadour out of the same space, making the fellowship hall a hub for the area's acoustic and folk community well beyond the monthly open stage.
