MilkBoy South Street

MilkBoy is a Philadelphia music institution that started as a recording studio over 20 years ago and has expanded into multiple venues. The South Street location, open since August 2016, brings music, food, beverage, and hospitality to the famous 400 block across from Jim's Steaks.

What They Offer Patrons: Elevated American cuisine with a focus on quality ingredients and creative preparations. Local draft selection alongside a growing national canned-beer menu. Full-service restaurant operating weekdays from 7 AM (serving the nearby hospital crowd) through late night. The upstairs music venue hosts impressive lineups of local and nationally recognized musicians. Tuesday open mic, Wednesday karaoke, and weekend shows provide entertainment most nights.

What They Offer Musicians: The Tuesday open mic, hosted by Katie Feeney, emphasizes safety and experimentation—performers are encouraged to try scary things like sharing brand-new songs or playing unfamiliar instruments. Full backline provided. The "audience pledge" creates supportive environment where every performer receives attention and applause. MilkBoy hosts three annual open mic competitions, with finalists competing for recording contracts at MilkBoy the Studio. Winners get professional recording time and industry connections. The venue's recording studio connection means talented performers might get noticed for larger opportunities.
