About Madam's Organ

Madam's Organ sits at the gateway of Adams Morgan on 18th Street NW, and it is impossible to ignore. Look for the massive mural of a redhead over the door, and you will find one of Washington, D.C.'s most colorful blues bars, complete with a soul food kitchen and live music every night.

Atmosphere and Setting

The interior is eclectic and gritty, with taxidermy and vintage decor covering the walls and a vibe fans describe as beautifully trashy. The window motto reads Sorry We're Open. Owner Bill Duggan opened the place in the early 1990s, and it has since become an anchor of Adams Morgan nightlife. The building spans multiple floors and includes a rooftop deck.

Food and Drink

The kitchen serves Southern soul food, including fried chicken, catfish, mac and cheese, and collard greens. Beer arrives in plastic cups, the mixed drinks are strong, and the house Redhead ale is a staple.

Music

Blues, funk, and R&B fill the rooms, performed by full bands in front of a packed dance floor. The club has a reputation for spotlighting some of D.C.'s best local players and vocalists.
