Le Chien Brewing Company
Le Chien Brewing Company is a dog-friendly craft brewery in downtown Denham Springs just east of Baton Rouge. The name means the dog in French and dogs are part of everything here. It has become a regular gathering spot for families and their pets and for local musicians and songwriters.
The Story Behind the Brewery
Le Chien started with a home brewing kit given as a gift. Co-owner Brett Dunham and his father turned that hobby into a commercial brewery and set out to build their dogs into the concept from day one. They converted a former oil-change shop into the brewery and taproom. The resident dog Shadow has been called the most famous dog in Denham Springs.
The Vibe
The taproom is relaxed and family friendly with indoor and patio seating in the heart of Denham Springs' growing downtown. Four-legged guests are always welcome and the crowd is friendly and local. The holiday season is especially festive.
What They Serve
Le Chien pours a rotating lineup of house-brewed beers. Food comes from a stationary food truck on the patio that makes hand pies in house. Favorites include brisket pot pie and meat lovers pizza and cheeseburger hand pies along with seasonal flavors.
Songwriter Open Mic
On the first and third Wednesday of each month Le Chien hosts a Songwriter Open Mic led by local host Victoria Lea. Acoustic performers and songwriters from around the Baton Rouge area share original songs and covers in a low-key setting.
Why Musicians Like It
The crowd is easygoing and the room suits solo and acoustic sets. It is a comfortable place to try new songs without the pressure of a loud bar.
