Overview

Influence Music Hall is a nonprofit community arts organization operated by Tualatin Valley Artists. Since 2006 this Hillsboro venue has been hosting Friday Night Open Mic one of the Portland area's longest-running and most beloved open mic events. The organization is dedicated to improving the community's quality of life by enhancing its art and culture.

Mission and Values

Influence Music Hall is focused on family-friendly community art and music with appreciative and supportive audiences. Their mission is to provide education quality gallery display poetry and musical performance all in an atmosphere of encouragement and opportunity. The venue operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization ensuring accessibility and community focus.

Friday Night Open Mic

Every Friday night from 7:00 PM until everyone has performed Influence Music Hall hosts an all-ages open mic event. Founded by Evan Acey the open mic has been running continuously for over 18 years. The format is simple: performers get 3 songs or 15 minutes whichever comes first. Sign-up starts at 6:30 PM with raffle tickets drawn at 7:00 PM to set the performance order. The hall stays open until everyone has had a chance to play.

Venue Facilities

The venue features a great sound system and house instruments including a grand piano guitars and full PA system. Free beer wine and snacks are provided to performers and audience members. The 1200 square foot space accommodates a wide variety of musical styles including rock jazz pop folk blues punk and more. The venue strictly enforces a no-talking policy during performances creating one of the most respectful listening environments in the region.

Art Gallery

In addition to music Influence Music Hall hosts the Hillsboro Art Walk displaying local artists' paintings drawings and photography throughout the space. This multi-disciplinary approach to the arts creates a rich cultural environment that celebrates all forms of creative expression.

Community Impact

Influence Music Hall has been described as a garden of fertile soil for emerging talent. Many musicians have sold CDs and landed paying gigs as a result of their performances at the hall. The venue provides opportunities ranging from light and sound engineering positions to regular performance slots at art walks. The supportive community atmosphere has helped launch numerous musical careers and fostered lasting connections between artists.

Location and Accessibility

The venue alternates between two Hillsboro locations: the Odd Fellows Hall at 267 E Main Street (odd months with elevator access for ADA compliance) and the Pythian Lodge at 151 SE 2nd Ave (even months). This rotating schedule keeps the experience fresh while maintaining the consistent quality and community spirit that defines Influence Music Hall.
