Hopvine Pub
Hopvine Pub is a cozy neighborhood tavern on 15th Avenue East. It is one of the few post-Prohibition taverns left on Capitol Hill and it has become a favorite for local craft beer and hand-tossed pizza and a long-running open mic.
The Story Behind the Hopvine
The tavern's roots go back to 1933 just as Prohibition ended. It was fully renovated in 1995 and it has kept its neighborhood feel through decades of change on the Hill.
The Vibe
Warm wood and hop-vine décor and a friendly staff make it an easy place to settle in. Neighbors come for board games and trivia and the game on TV and musicians come every Wednesday for the open mic.
What They Serve
The kitchen turns out hand-tossed pizzas like the Hopvine Basic and Pepperoni along with smoked-meat sandwiches such as the Smoky Bird and a classic Reuben. There are salads and soups and shareable plates like jalapeño queso and hop wings with gluten-free and vegetarian options. The taps rotate local craft beers.
Wednesday Open Mic
For more than 25 years Hopvine has hosted the longest-running open mic on Capitol Hill. It runs every Wednesday from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Sign-up is from 7:00 PM to 7:45 PM and a lottery at 7:45 PM sets the order for 15 performers. There is no cover but a purchase is requested.
Why Musicians Like It
The lottery keeps things fair and the crowd is made up of regulars who come to listen. It is a great first stop for new performers in Seattle.
More Events
Mondays bring an ASL social hour and trivia runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays feature karaoke and live music.
