Founders Speakeasy embodies the spirit of the Prohibition era in downtown Albuquerque offering a hidden gem experience nestled beneath the historic El Rey Theater at 622 Central Ave SW. Established in 2019 this speakeasy creates an authentic clandestine atmosphere where history and mixology intertwine.
The Speakeasy Experience
To enter Founders guests must walk into what appears to be a typical liquor store then provide a special password available online or through Instagram. This leads through an inconspicuous freezer door to reveal an intimate underground bar with vintage decor dim lighting and black-and-white checkered walls. The password entry adds a fun theatrical element to each visit.
Cocktail Program
The highlight of Founders lies in its carefully crafted drink menu featuring the finest craft cocktails in New Mexico. Expert mixologists prepare an impressive selection of handcrafted cocktails ranging from classic speakeasy staples like the Old Fashioned and Sazerac to unique signature creations. The most popular drink is the Banana Bread Old Fashioned which has achieved legendary status among regulars. Other notable cocktails include the San Francisco Pisco Punch and There's No Moon both perfectly balanced creations.

Pricing and Accessibility
Despite the upscale cocktail program Founders maintains reasonable prices making it accessible to a broad audience. The venue operates Tuesday through Saturday from 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM and Sunday through Monday from 5:00 PM to midnight. As a cash-free establishment all payments are made by card.
