Historic Brewery & Restaurant

Firehouse Brewing Company stands as South Dakota's oldest operating brewery housed in the original Rapid City firehouse built in 1915. Listed on the National Historic Register this four-layer brick building exemplifies the Chicago School style and features authentic firefighting memorabilia from Rapid City's early fire brigades including the original brass fire pole ladders patches and more. The brewery opened December 5 1991 just 93 days after renovation began transforming the historic fire station into a brewpub that maintains its original glory with polished brass and firefighting equipment adorning the walls bar and ceiling.

Dining & Brewing

The restaurant operates daily offering a diverse menu of Midwestern specialties including locally sourced buffalo burgers Rancher's Pie barbecue with house-made sauces and more. Families appreciate the kid's menu root beer and free firehats. The brewery crafts approximately 40 different unique beers annually with nine beers on tap at any given time using 350-620 pounds of grain and 4-19 pounds of hops per batch. Popular ingredients include honey spruce tips orange zest cacao mint and ginger. Hours are Monday-Wednesday 11 AM-9 PM Thursday 11 AM-10 PM Friday 11 AM-9 PM Saturday 11 AM-9 PM and Sunday 11 AM-8:30 PM.

Live Music Venue

After a two-year hiatus Firehouse brought back its longstanding tradition of live music on the outdoor patio in 2024. The heated outdoor patio features beautiful views of downtown Rapid City fire pits and a band shell for performances. Live music occurs every Friday and Saturday night from 8:30-10:30 PM during warmer months featuring talented regional artists performing various genres including blues jazz folk and rock. Artists include Sophia Beatty BW Swing Band the Nervous Turtles and Lonely Rangers among others. The venue's outdoor space creates nostalgic music nights where memories have been made throughout the decades.

Additional Venues

Adjacent to the brewery is Firehouse Wine Cellars where music enthusiasts can start their evening enjoying award-winning wines or craft beer before heading to the brewery for outdoor music. The company has also established satellite restaurants and taprooms across the Black Hills extending their reach beyond the original downtown Rapid City location.
