Curitiba Art Cafe

Curitiba Art Cafe brings a slice of Brazil to Caroline Street, serving specialty Brazilian coffee and espresso alongside pastries, light fare, craft cocktails, beer and wine. Beyond the menu, the cafe describes itself as a hub for local artists across disciplines, and its indoor and patio seating regularly doubles as a stage, gallery and gathering space for Fredericksburg's creative community.

Fredericksburg Jazz Collective Jazz Jam

Since late 2024, Curitiba has been the permanent home of the Fredericksburg Jazz Collective's monthly all-ages jazz jam, held on the second Thursday of each month from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The collective spent a decade at Colonial Tavern before relocating when that venue became unavailable for a Jazz4Justice after-concert jam; the group found Curitiba's “cool eclectic environment” such a good fit that they made the move permanent.

Each session opens with a roughly 40-minute set from a rotating host band — past hosts have included groups like the John Vreeland Quintet — after which guitarist Bruce Middle helps pair up musicians and singers who want to sit in. Groups are encouraged to register together and play two or three songs, though solo musicians are welcome to join as well. The jam draws a genuinely wide range of players, from 12-year-old students to University of Mary Washington faculty, and donations collected at the door support the nonprofit collective's work introducing local students to jazz.

Other Programming

Beyond the monthly jazz jam, Curitiba's calendar includes live acoustic performances, comedy nights, drag shows and community art events, and the space is also used by local writing and photography groups for regular meetups.
