Conor Byrne Pub
Conor Byrne Pub is a Ballard institution with more than a hundred years of music history. It sits on historic Ballard Avenue and it has become one of Seattle's most important small rooms for folk and Americana and roots and indie music. Since 2024 it has also been something rare. It is a bar owned by the community that loves it.
The Story Behind Conor Byrne
The building once housed The Owl Saloon and music has filled it for generations. When the pub's future was in doubt in 2024 employees and musicians and neighbors came together to buy it. Conor Byrne became a cooperative that May and celebrated a grand reopening in August 2024. Today more than 600 member-owners share in the pub and a nonprofit arm is fiscally sponsored by Shunpike Arts.
Become an Owner
Anyone can join the co-op. A lifetime membership costs $300 or can be paid in monthly installments. Members get drink specials and event perks and a vote in how the pub is run.
The Vibe
Dark wood and a long bar and a small stage give it the feel of a classic Irish pub with a serious music program. Seating is first come first served and the crowd is known for actually listening. You can bring outside food but not outside drinks.
Sunday Open Mic
The Conor Byrne Open Mic runs every Sunday and many call it the best in Seattle. Sign-ups are at 7:30 PM sharp and the music often runs until 1:00 AM. Expect songwriters and folk players and bands trying new material.
More Events
The calendar includes local and touring bands most nights along with country dancing with free two-step and swing lessons. Matinee shows and happy hour trivia and bingo round out the week.
