About Community Forge
Community Forge is a hub for revitalization in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, operating from the former Johnston Elementary School at 1256 Franklin Avenue. The nonprofit is dedicated to building an equitable economy and empowering youth and families, and it uses the old school building's classrooms and auditorium as flexible spaces for creativity and collaboration.
Atmosphere and Setting
Walking into Community Forge feels like stepping into a school that has been given a second life. Hallways that once carried students to class now lead to workshop rooms, meeting spaces, and gathering areas. The auditorium provides a real stage, and the smaller classrooms are used for programs that range from youth workshops to community meetings.
Programs and Purpose
The organization runs educational workshops, youth programs, and community markets, and it hosts arts showcases and open stage nights that give neighborhood artists a place to be heard. Its work is rooted in the belief that a healthy community grows when residents have access to space, resources, and each other.
A Place for Everyone
Community Forge is more than a venue. Families, artists, entrepreneurs, and neighbors all use the building for different purposes, and the mix creates an energy you do not find in a typical performance space. Visitors are encouraged to come as they are and to get involved.
