Jazz Jam Session at BOP STOP
Every Friday evening, Cleveland's premier jazz listening room hosts one of the city's most respected jam sessions. Led by talented local drummers Anthony Taddeo and trumpeter Garrett Folger (who alternate hosting duties), the BOP STOP Jazz Jam welcomes players of all skill levels to sit in with a professional house rhythm section.
The Vibe
The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between serious musicianship and welcoming inclusivity. BOP STOP's intimate, acoustically pristine space features tiered seating and sweeping views of Lake Erie, creating an environment where music is treated with reverence. The venue's "quiet policy" during performances ensures that musicians receive the focused attention their work deserves, while the all-ages policy and free admission (donations encouraged) make jazz accessible to everyone.
The Performances
Musicians bring their instruments and call tunes from the standard jazz repertoire—bebop classics, hard bop standards, contemporary compositions. The house rhythm section provides deep-in-the-pocket support that allows horn players, pianists, and vocalists to truly stretch out and explore. Whether you're a conservatory student testing classroom skills against real-time demands, a weekend warrior looking to blow off steam, or a seasoned professional stopping by between gigs, you'll find supportive colleagues and an audience that actually listens.
The jam sessions are great for performers of all skill levels and listeners alike, embodying BOP STOP's mission to make world-class jazz experiences accessible to the entire Cleveland community.
