About Burbank Bluegrass Jam
The Burbank Bluegrass Jam takes place every Sunday afternoon under the sycamore trees at George Izay Park. Started in May 2024 by guitarist Mark Gusick - this free outdoor jam has quickly become a beloved community tradition.
Jam Format
The session follows typical bluegrass etiquette with musicians sitting in a circle and taking turns leading songs. The setlist includes a mix of old-time - bluegrass and country classics like Will the Circle Be Unbroken - Old Joe Clark - Arkansas Traveler and Wildwood Flower. Participants play banjos - fiddles - double bass - piano accordion - Dobro resonator and acoustic guitars.
Community Spirit
The jam welcomes musicians of all ages and skill levels. Recent participants have included a 12-year-old fiddle player - visitors from Scotland and local musicians from throughout the San Fernando Valley. Some participants also enjoy flatfoot dancing on wooden dance boards. The group continues to grow each week - creating a welcoming environment where bluegrass enthusiasts can share their love of traditional American music.
Additional Information
Organizer Mark Gusick and his wife Margo also lead the Americana acoustic band Wild Rust - whose version of Wildwood Flower has been featured regularly on KXLU 88.9 FM's The Wildwood Flower Radio Hour.
