Overview
The Black Rose Acoustic Society has been the home of live handmade acoustic music in the Pikes Peak Region for over 30 years. The organization presents concerts at the Black Forest Community Center and hosts jam sessions and open mics at various venues throughout Colorado Springs including Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort Beth-el Mennonite Church All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church and Treehouse Cafe.
Concert Series
Twice each month on second and fourth Fridays the Black Rose holds concerts at the Black Forest Community Center just north of Colorado Springs. The log-cabin concert hall provides a family-oriented setting with outstanding acoustics and a down-home atmosphere. National and regional musicians regularly perform as feature acts. The open-stage format encourages performers at all levels with friendly supportive audiences. The legendary Black Rose Stomp occurs when the old oak floor shakes with sustained roaring approval for exceptional performances.
Jam Sessions
The Black Rose hosts numerous jam sessions throughout the month in various genres and skill levels. Festival Bluegrass Jams are held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays at Beth-el Mennonite Church from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM emphasizing festival etiquette where musicians dont rely on written music. Other jams include Beginning and Intermediate Bluegrass Pop and Rock from the 60s and beyond Fiddle Tunes Gospel Select Handpicked Jams featuring different songwriters each month Gypsy Swing Django Reinhardt jazz and Blues Jam on 4th Thursdays at All Souls Unitarian Church.
Open Mic
Open Mic nights are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort from 6:00 PM to 8:40 PM followed by an open jam until 9:00 PM. Musicians can sign up starting at 5:30 PM for a 3-song set on a first-come first-served basis. This provides new and beginning musicians a chance to perform in front of a smaller audience. Saturday morning Hootenanny Jams are held at Treehouse Cafe from 10:00 AM to noon.
Community and Mission
Making music with others is central to the Black Rose mission. All jam levels are welcome from beginner to advanced. The organization provides a small donation to help cover room rentals. Jam reminder emails and a Facebook community page keep members connected. The Black Rose Acoustic Society has created a welcoming inclusive environment where acoustic music thrives and friendships form through shared musical experiences.
